Vibration from back of car?
So,
My 2004 XC90 has 137,000 miles on it and it has now started to vibrate at around 70mph. The vibration appears to be at the back of the car and passengers sitting in the back say that they can feel the vibration a lot. The car hasn't had any new tyres - they are all relatively new 7-8K on them and are Nokians. The tyres have all been checked for balancing and they are spot on. They've also been rotated front to back and it makes no difference. Anyone had a similar problem? |

Possibles are:
Shocker gone (peel the rubber boot up little and you may see some leaking) or its a rear bearing (so long as it hasn't taken a knock at the rear, in which case it may need rear tracking. Or a rear bush has worn causing incorrect alignment. |

Both rear bearings have been replaced in the past couple of years so I don't think it's one of those.

Volvo bearings used ?
How any miles done since ? If they're Chinese aftermarket parts.... I wouldn't discount them. Could also be a prop shaft bearing worn or donut wear.... rear CV Joint or rear driveshaft on its way out. Could also be worn rear brake discs that are out of balance. Is the rear wheel/caliper hot after use ? Maybe the rear caliper(s) are sticking, this would cause a rumble and vibration and isn't uncommon on an XC90. It needs good scrutiny on it, by a good trusted mechanic, rather than guess work. Hope you get it sorted. Report back what you find so it may help others Last edited by colinbos; Apr 16th, 2018 at 20:45. |

So, it turned out it was the tyres... they were Nokians and in good shape but after changing them to pirelli's all is fine...
