Default Help DVD no remote control!

Hey Guys,

Hope this is the right place to post. I am just in the middle of purchasing an XC90 exec and very excited indeed. One problem though, the garage say that they dont have the remote control for the DVD player!!!!

I have explained that I want to see the DVD working before continuing with the sale. I saw a very old post saying that it was imperative in order to make it work.

My question is, is the above true? can you purchase a remote control to replace the lost one? Do you have to map it at all? or can you just put some batteries in and use it? If I can, I was thinking of just buying one and testing to see that it does work on hopefully what will be my new purchase.

Any ideas where would be the best place to buy this remote? Any thoughts, comments very welcome!

Thank you from a newbie to the forum!

Your volvo dealer is the best place to buy one but there are about 3 different systems so be prepared for them to struggle a bit finding you the correct one .. Best let the seller sort that out though!

Thanks for your response, unfortunately because its a very large company that hold 1000s of cars (best not say the name) I dont think they will be willing to do this. They actually said I would have to buy one. Do you definitely need the remote to get the dvd player working? Thanks again for the heads up on the various systems.

We have an 05 model with headrest screens. The remote control is the only way to play a DVD. The screens each have an infra red sensor and control a DVD changer under the boot floor. There are no manual buttons anywhere.

p.s. You may be able to program up a universal remote (codes might be available on the internet), but the original is credit-card sized and tucks away easier.

I second this, remote control battery was dead during our school mid-term holiday trip to Belgium and kids were not happy that there was no alternative to operate the DVD.

You may get a clue at what DVD package you have by looking at the the document coming with your volvo. It should be a separate booklet from the owner manual. Ours is Thompson, check in under the boot trap at the back of the car where the battery is, you might get further clues about the exact model.

Are you sure that it's Thomson? The wireless sound tranmitter and headphone are on mine but the DVD unit isn't.

Someone posted here that Volvo fitted Audiovox DVD units.

Hi, I should be able to clear this up for everybody! There were two rear seat entertainment systems for the XC90, one was designed by Visteon for Volvo Sweden and was fitted in the executive this had a single DVD player in the centre console with non swivel monitors, the other was designed by me for Volvo UK, this has two swivel monitors and a 10 disc DVD player fitted under the boot floor. I am still able to offer all parts, please email me privately so I can deal with each request individually. This is genuine, I advertise on EBAY as well and I am able to fit complete systems, the headrest monitors have been fully crash tested with Volvo, hope this helps, Peter

I also have a 2005 Volvo XC90 and have lost the remote to the headrest style dvd screens with player in the center console. The dealer wants to charge $150 which is too much! Where can I purchase another remote?
