Default Which Phase

As some may know i bought a 99 V40 T4 recently. My Question is which phase is she. She has black badge, and dealer says she is a 98 which was registered march 99. Does have the twin headlights. What are the differences? I do know later had VVT, and i heard early had a type of VVT.

Phase 1.5 is a grey area in X40s. It looks most likely that it is a Phase 1 and probably the previous owner chnged the front lights. If the dealer said for sure it is a 1998 model then it is a phase 1 for sure. It might have been a phase 1.5 if it was late 1999. Simple things to distinguish between P1 and P2 are the front headlights (clear vs well, ermm crappy old foggy weaky ones ), the sidelights on the bumpers(P2 are bigger than P1) and the centre console of the car.

There are many other things that are different between P1 and P2 hidden under the car.

My guess would be it is a P1 but someone else might have a better opinion

P1,5 has CEM under light switch, and P1 doesn't.

Interesting. I had a P1 V40 diesel, and i think the dash was different, if i remember the recirculate was a flip lever in the middle of the vents. The lights, appear to be original as i cant see any evidence of wiring chop etc, unless p1 and 1.5 had the same connector?

Look at the project Baffler did where he converted a lot of his P1 into a P2. A quick photo of the interior would also help

Oh yes, very good point. I didnt think of that. The CEM is fairly easy to find on the drivers footwell. That could be a nice way to determine what you have

p1 here too, 98 is deffo p1.
mod year 00 (sold in 99) is when p1.5 happened.
mod year 98 would be p1 99.99% sure on that.

all t4's came with the twin lights afaik ,

Thats a phase 1, the engine cover under the bonnet gives it away. The phase 1.5 had a cover the same as the phase 2 T4s but with a slightly different 1.9t motor. Phase 1.5 was from about Aug/Sept 99 build onwards. T4s always came with twin headlights.
