Front bumper spot lights
Hi all,
My 850 is due its mot and the front factory fitted bumper spot lights are not working, i guess these are required to work for the mot? The nearside bulb would not come on, fitted new bulb and still does not work, once the nearside had a new bulb the offside will not work now either, checked the fuse and that is good. Craig.

Don't think they are part of the test...
4.5.1. Presence, condition and operation You only need to inspect: front fog lamps fitted to vehicles first used on or after 1 March 2018 the 1 rear fog lamp which must be fitted to the centre or offside of vehicles first used on or after 1 April 1980

Spotlamps aren't a testable item, so no worries there.
Perhaps get a multimeter and test for voltage at the bulb holder?

I understood lighting, if fitted must work? Removal would do it.

I stand corrected. Working or not, it makes sense that ancillary lighting is not a safety requirement therefore will not fall under the MOT. But if you added, say, an extra brake-light/ side indicators and these didn't work - they would? I think?

Fog lights V70
Just got a pair, bulbs and everything for £83 (including P&P) from Parts for Volvo as the glass on both was cracked and bits fell out. It's very thick glass.
Two bolts and one screw to undue - all done in minutes. |
