Hi, some time back now I purchased a fuel economy gauge for my Volvo. It arrived without any instructions on installing it!!!

Does anyone know how?

It should have a + (red) and a - (black) for the backlight, connect the red up to the red wire leading to your clock bulb, connect the black wire to earth point on metal centre console chassis (there should be a common earth point with a bunch of other wires to it)

take a blanking plug out of one of the hole in your inlet manifold (11mm spanner) and install a nipple (from scrapyard volvo) in the hole. Connect a length of 2.5m x 3mm fuel line (from motor factors) or silicone or nylon line to the nipple and feed it though a hole in the bulkhead, later models have a piece of corrugated shroud fitted near the passenger side bonnet hinge for wires and pipes, connect line to back of gauge.

Hey presto!

If it the genuine Volvo gauge, (round type, with a small petrol pump in right hand side and a section going from to clear to red), you will need to take the pressure from the inlet manifold with a threaded connector, remove the small 11 mm bolt from the top, taking a hose from there to the rear of the gauge, the illumination is straightforward, + and - to the dashboard lighting circuit.
Hope this makes sense and helps.
Cheers,
Kevin.

Suterman just got his reply in front of me !!!

Hi 262

Prepare for counselling - these things can send you mad! Your driving will never be the same again.

Good luck

Phil
