Default 2005 V50 cd radio unit replacement

Hi,
I have a 2005 V50 which as normal has eaten the 6cd changer mechanism in the radio unit. I recently bought a replacement unit to swap the cd mechanism over however after removing the cover found the mechanism on the new unit (08 model) is different.
My question is, Can i have this new unit programmed to my car by volvo with a software update????
I have plugged the new radio in and it works good as gold for the 5 seconds which the car allows an alien radio to operate for.

Many thanks Dave

When my cd changer showed deck error I eventually had it repaired. I did look into a replacement/exchange unit from the dealer but this was too expensive. If I remember right the dealer said it would need the software doing for it to work, hence why I went for the repair option as it was cheaper.
My V50 is a 2005.
I also remember someone saying you may be able to take out the electrical gubins that the car recognises in your old cd changer and move it into your new unit, that is if you're an electrical bod!

Perhaps the dealer can tell you more or someone else will come along and put you right?

Tried that, unfortunately the internals are different and the 05 motherboard will not run the 08 cd mechanism.

Oh dear! Not sure what you paid for it, FYI it cost approx £300 to get mine repaired from Marcel in Ipswich. Maybe worth giving him a call as he may be able to advise you?
