Default 2.0D Average mpg????

Hiya,

Have just bought a 54 plate 2.0D S40 V50 model. The car is showing on the motorway that it is doing around 40mpg on level road in 6th gear at around 75mph!! It does a hell of a lot more at lower speeds.

I need to get the tracking done as the tyres are scrubbing quite badly and another sign is that the wheel is off center when going in a straight line. Could this lack of mpg be down to the tracking; if so what can I expect to get once it is sorted?

Also going to get some new tyres; is there a recommended make and model of tyre for the S40?

Cheers in advance.

For best MPG:

- New Tyres of your choice
- New brakes (if they're worn unevenly you may be getting brake grab, i just did mine and the difference is very noticable)
- Tracking
- Wheel Balancing
- Correct Tyre pressures as per the handbook

over 55mph the mpg drops off rapidly , if i stick to the speed limits on A roads and dont follow anyone too close so i hardly use the brakes i have managed a average of 56.8 mpg over approx 1000miles , this was worked out on a tank fill to tank fill (mileage / litres x 4.55 )

ive done 5k miles in the last 3 months and each time I fill up I work out MPG rather than relying on the computer...

Consumption for each fill-up ranges from 48-51mpg

Would be good to hear how this relates to others data

Best I've ever managed driving from Devon to Liverpool (plus about 30 miles on the hills around Brixham) over 310 miles is 53.5 MPG. That was probably doing about ~66 most of the way with a few foot down bits on the fun parts or when people **** me off.

Had my V50 2005 2.0D since late January and manage about 48-54 depending how heavy my foot is. On a trip to Devon recently, going just over the "advised" speed I managed 52mpg. Not bad. Air con is always on as well.

I've got another thread going here today where I was asking for mpg figures for the 1.6D in my S40. I'm only getting 48 to 53mpg too, which to be honest is less than I hoped. I used to get that in my big heavy lump of an Avensis estate that I drove until last month. Perhaps it's my dreaded DPF that's keeping it down, the Avensis did not have one.

Is that measured at the pump or based on the trip computer, over 300 miles my trip tends to underestimate by about 4MPG, i.e. it claims 56MPG when it's really 52MPG.

Hi Guy,

thanks for the responses. I just got the tracking done and it was way out! got the tyres filed with Nitrogen as well. the car is a lot more comfortable and is now doing around 52 mpg at 75mph. if I go 65 I get around 63mpg.

Loads better.... one thing that they said when doing tracking that suprised me is that there is no toe adjustment on the car?? They could only adjust the camber. Is this correct?

Cheers.
