Default New C30 owner - servicing questions

hi all,

I am now the proud owner of a 57 plate C30 T5 SE Geartronic with toys, sat-nav, sunroof, heated seats, electric driver seat etc brought it from cargaint, but thats a whole story in it's self !

Previous car was a 'classic' 2001 S40 T4, which I had done my own servicing for the last 3 years - wanted something newer and had cash burning a hole in my pocket. Got the volvo bug when I brought a 460 from my parents, got it for about half the normal price as were not using it (had moved overseas) and I really needed a car at the time for getting to work. 'volvo for life' they say :P

Picked the car up yestaday morning , was all so-so even thinking hmm I just brought another volvo why ? ... just wanted to get home and get some lunch, and watch the F1 qualy lol. Today got the seat and steering wheel position setup beter and been out for a good 2 hr run, and I don't think I have grinned so much after getting out a car lol Just had to look back and appreciate what a amazing little car it it.

Love the looks you get, people stare for a good few seconds ... almost like there wondering wtf is that ? I remember the first time I saw a demo C30 before it went on sale in Gunwharf Quays in portsmouth, me and mate spotted it and walked up from behind, hmm whats this car .. walked down the sides giving it thumps up, wasn't till we got to the front and stared at the front grill for about a second or so and saw the badge and both more or said at the same time 'feck me its a Volvo' LOL

Anyway enough rambling - I have a few questions about servicing:
Seems to be an option between 12.5k vs 18k miles between services, what determines this ? is it a determined by engine type or is it a customer option ?
Since its last service a year ago - the car has only done just over 2k, is this one of the times that volvo do there 'essintial service' which boils down a quick inspection and a oil change ? - I am thinking of just doing an oil and filter change myself and leaving till next year and get it serviced by a local indy volvo specialist.

Welcome!

C30 T5's look awesome and if wasn't for the tiny boot (need a bigger one for work) I'd be tempted myself.

Get the oil changed every 6 months.

If you're looking to upgrade/modify I'm your man I can probably give you a steer on the best mods and parts, I've done just about everything within reason to my S40 T5.

Thanks !! Is it still every year ?
18k is a lot of driving to do in one year LOL - Used to do 450 miles to work and back + lots of miles during the weekend too and manged to get 14k in one year!

Yep, no oil change - it has had nothing mechinical done since last years service.

Do other 5 cyls owners with low millage get it serviced every year ? Just thinking about long term resale value wih a gap in the service book.

EDIT (19:44) OK read the service book again ... its every 18k OR 1yr - and on page 15 it states that every 2 yrs it also needs air filter, spark plugs, auto box check, brake fluild change, coolant change recommended - since the next service is the service is the 4yr one, assuming this extra stuff needs doing too..

K used to do my T4 with semi-synth 10w40 every 6 months (last few years only been doing about 6-7k a year). Forgot to add, which oil do I need ? opie oils shows I need fully synth 0w30, surely every 6 months is a bit OTT with fully synth and low millage ?
