Default V70 Engine mount weird problem

I noticed a while back that the top engine mount on my V70 wasnt in line with the bulkhead mount any more, after checking I decided to replace the top mount, this did er.. nothing. I did some further checking and realised that the gearbox mount was also gone, along with the engine mount that sits under the crank pulley. These have both now been replaced and yet the engine is still offset and actually causes the gearbox to 'knock' on the subframe while pulling away. I'm at a loss as the only mounts left to replace are the large front and rear mounts and I can't see either of these failing? has anyone had a similar problem? I've managed to temporarily circumvent the problem (partially) by replacing the new standard top mount with a poly one as its a lot stiffer its not allowing as much movement, the downside is that its a hell of a lot noisier in the car now.

Hi

The large front and rear mounts do fail eventually, they get squashed so the engine sits lower and lower.

What year and model is your car?

Are you sure you used the correct mount to go under the crank pulley? There are various types - maybe check by VIN.

Cars a 97 but it’s got a later engine from a 2002 S60 in it. I’m going with the idea that the rear mount has failed as the metal cable running round it seems very slack, hopefully (weather dependant) I’ll be changing it this weekend

It took me all day, but only because I ended up taking the damn turbo off to get at the top nut of the mount. I did however work out what was actually wrong… the rear engine mount bracket only had one of the three bolts holding it in place and that bolt was loose!! Rear mount replaced anyway being as I’d already bought it.
