Default Motor Insurance .....

Just wondering ..... any recommendations rather than Comparison Websites for both the '90 745 (currently Hagerty) and the '98 V70 (omg the quote for next year is UNBELIEVABLE!) insurance firms/brokers (excluding Robot Dan) for comp and full b/down (exc. Europe) you have used and are content with?

Thanks, Bob.

Try Chris Knott (advert at the top of the forum in the advert banner) the cheapest quote I got was £320 something and I phoned them up, they were getting quotes of around £500 (mods declared on my 940) and when I said about the quote they beat it and did it for £280ish. So I would get some quotes including using the comparison websites (which I have always found the best deals on until now) and then phone them up.

I used Chris Knott, but now use Adrian Flux for my 1997 90.

This used to be the same for us, admiral multicar (cars and houses). But they are now quite expensive for us for some reason. I now use Peter Best for my oldies and whatever is cheapest for the modern. I'm not sure how competitive they are generally, but my classic Saab 900 convertible just came up for renewal at £140! Keep in mind I'm 34 with 6 points and only 3 years NCB on this car.

Coincidentally my cover renews today, have had multicar with Admiral for 15 + years and most recently had my 94’ 940 and better half’s 2005 RAV circ@ 10k Pa on both, both of us with 20 + years protected NCB. Admiral wanted over £900 almost double the premium I paid last year…….

Called to see if their retentions team to do better, unfortunately not.

Now got my cover with RAC including business use £360 and other half is now AA at £170 so £530 saving £370+

I did use a comparison site, but their cheapest offers were companies I’d not heard of.

Really hacked off, as the multicar was so simple to administer, I hate pointless paperwork or spending ages online faffing around.

The trouble with insurance cover, is you never know how good the company is, till it’s too late 😀

Good luck,
Cheers
Steve

Thanks everyone all now sorted very quickly this morning.

I was with Sainsbury's Bank as they have been one of the most reasonable around for what I wanted comp inc full breakdown excl European cover. You can also amend policy through the year with no brokerage charges. Excellently cheap when my daughter and family were over for a couple of months in the Summer when she racked up a fair mileage in the V70!

I got some quotes from comparison sites last evening and clearly as Martin Lewis and a Rep of the Ins Co's was saying only last week on Lewis' TV show prices are going up by 60%. Big sobs and wailing, nashing of teeth by the Ins Co's Rep. They weren't making any money and a lot operating at a loss .... oh yea!!!!

Anyway Sainsbury's admitted they had cocked it up big time and the final figure came in at a respectable £350 for the V70 on limited mileage.

However, I haven't paid yet and might well get some quotes from your suggestions. Whatever I will keep them in mind for next year if as I expect I will stay with Sainsbury's Bank for now. You also get 4,000 Nectar points worth £20!!

I have the 745 on an all inclusive limited mileage Classic policy with Hagerty that has only gone up £4 from last year to £244.

Thanks again, Bob.

I'm the first to slag off insurance companies, but Brentacre have been absolutely superb for me. No issues whatsoever.

Same for me, I was with them for two years but this year the quotes were double last year and when I phoned them up they could supposedly only knock £50 off of everything. I went through three different insurers this year for the three cars and it ended up being cheaper than admiral multi car was last year!
