740 1992 Clunking from rear axle/differential when driving
My 740 is making a clunking noise that goes faster with speed when i accelerate lightly or if i roll but when engine braking it goes away and if i tap the accelerator or when i let go of it i hear that same clunk sound from the rear its not loud but i hear it and its worrying me a lot

Could be the propshaft centre bearing carrier has failed, I had this clunking when accelerating when mine was worn out.
Torque rod bushes could have gone soft allowing the axle to twist when accelerating and twist back once you stop accelerating hence the clunk happening when you come off the throttle too. |
