Default Intermittent Rear Wiper

Hi, I was wondering how to get the rear wiper to go intermittent on the old 245.. It has a rear wiper and a switch on the wiper stalk that can go either: Intermittent - Off - On. At the moment only the Off and On positions of the switch are active, I suppose that the person who bought it in the first place didn't go for the optional intermittent setting for the rear wiper. How can I make the rear wiper enable its intermittent setting? Please help me! Thank you!

p.s the car is a 1984 245 on the Australian market

First thing to check with anything on the tailgate is the wiring where it passes through the hinges.
Then I'd check the wiper relay - somewhere down in the passenger footwell. At least you have a means of identifying it because the wipers do basically work.

Then look at the switch on the stalk. If you take the shroud off I think you can unplug the wiring loom to the switch and do a continuity test on the switch positions.

Sounds good, I'll give it a go! Anything in particular to look at in terms of the wiper relay?

also, the de-mister doesn't seem to be working properly or at all.. :/

Had similar problems a while ago and all cured by replacing tailgate wiring looms. They're fairly inexpensive and not a complicated job. A friend did it, with inexpert help from me, in a couple of hours.
