Default OBD Socket Advice needed For Dash cam

I currently have 2 Blackvue DR450 dashcams one forward one rear facing in 2016 Volvo S60 D4, these are powered with the power magic pro and work fine, my issue is the fuse box on the S60 shuts down a few minutes after parking up, I cant use the feed from the boot because that is needed for Tow socket power (dont want to risk overloading).
A now see that Blackvue sell the Power Magic EZ that plugs into the OBD socket for powering the dash cams in park mode, does anybody know if the OBd sockets stays powered when parked or does that shut down also.

The OBD socket should have a permanent live but its not designed for high loads. If you think plugging your camera's into the boot feed will over that feed I definitely wouldn't risk plugging it into the OBD and overloading that.

The OBDII socket shuts down after a few mins anyway.

ODB should always be supplied regardless of ignition position according to the specifications (pin 16 labelled as “battery”). Obviously the CANs shut down after a certain amount of time with the ignition off.

My strong advice would be to leave the ODB connector well alone. While the CANs in the car are required to tolerate electrical abuse, the same can’t be said for any of the manufacturer reserved pins in the connector and you can’t be sure how anything you plug into the ODB socket is going to behave.

The DR450 consumes 0.25A of current

2 of them consume 0.5A

To summarise: bugger all power is needed to run these things.

Your trailer connector would have to be on a 1A fuse to have any concern about overloads.... and generally a trailer connector is rated at something like 10A

But if you want to play it safe, use a permanent 12V source in the dash fusebox, and fit a 1A fuse inline for the 2 x dashcams.

Hi thanks for the replies, i currently run the two blackvue cameras powered by a power magic and a piggy back fuse into the cab fuse box, works fine in normal dashcam mode its the parking mode i want to get sorted, I have been looking at various options just didnt want to upgrade to the dashcam battery pack e.g. blackvue b112 or the cellink neo.
