Exclamation XC70 Door mirror Glass- check yours?

Hi all, just a quick heads-up, was very fortunate to spot the other day that the mirror glass on my '07 XC70 had become detached from its backing plastic. How it didn't fall out and shatter I don't know. Anyway, I checked the other one and sure enough that was hanging by a thread as well. I suspect the recent cold/wet spell and a bit of freeze/thaw was to blame, but it was evident that the bond had been deteriorating for sometime. Might be worthwhile checking yours if of the same vintage!!

Cheers
AG

Hi, outside ones. Glass appears to be glued to a rubbery backing pad with the heating element therein, glue had failed completely....

I've been in there a few times. Was vandalised and left dangling by wires with bits scattered al over the shop. Amazingly it all glued back together over a day or two on the bench.

One had a broken heating element. Looked for replacements, but they are hard to find and costly (>100$, >80£ a piece).

Then the other went black. There had been a trailer with a compressor driven by a (diesel or petrol) engine next to it, so I figured it had been blasted with exhaust fumes which turned it black. I polished it for several seconds before I realised the glass was actually missing. I checked the place where my car had been, but apart from a single 1mm shard of glass, there was nothing to be found. Imho proof that the heat of the exhaust fumes killed it, and the folks responsible thought that removing all evidence would clear them of all responsibility...

Long story short: I bought two second hand mirrors for 100euro, way, WAY cheaper than buying two pieces of mirrorglass. (And my mirrorcowls had holes due to it being an ex cop-car, so that is fixed now too. Just spraying them white took 10 layers and everytime I wanted to go too fast, it would leave paintdroplets, I'd have to sand it down and start over...)

But if someone knows of a cheap sub 50£/$/euro solution per mirrorglass, I'd love to hear it (sporting S60 mirrors on my V70)

I had exactly the same thing happen to my drivers side one last year. At over £80.00 from Volvo I have now hopefully sourced cheaper replacements from eBay. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Volvo-XC9...72.m2749.l2649

There is a change in the backing for earlier XC's.

Hopefully the link will work.

Not sure how popular were the heated ones in UK, but here's how to test one if pulling them from the breakers https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FEVj6OFyeJA
