Default Smoke test my 2002 D5

Today I did a smoke test with my new smoke tester
it is a lot easier to use then a home made tester,
no messing with a compressor, smoke starts in about 1min,
I removed the pipe that goes to the MAF/Airbox , and inserted the nice rubber cone adaptor that comes with the tester, I only let the pressure build up to
2psi as there is a hose that goes from the cold air pipe just before the turbo
this hose is the crankcase breather, so I did not want to pressure the crankcase to much and blow a seal/core plug,,,
but I did want to smoke test all of the engine, I will block this pipe when I want to do higher pressure testing,
there was a very small leak at this breather pipe to the heater on the cold air pipe, this may have been my doing as I fitted a new pipe clamp 3 years ago when I changed the cold air pipe as it was split,
Dave

Installed the harness for my CFE plus I recently bought from these forums - it’s needed for pre-facelift cars as I found out. All working, but car still in bits 😂

Interruption at work.
Quick decision- pop out, go hone, eat something, come back (10 minutes each way)
On the way home- strange behaviour of car, loosing power, feeling like one of tyres slips when accelerating. By the time I got home CEL was up.

Laptop. Dice. Vida.
Misfire cylinder 3.
Unload work tools from boot, get under floor, get car related tools.
Coils lid off, coil3 out, spark plug out, checked, cleaned, refitted.
Coil replaced (had spare one in the boot).
Put it all together. Start.

Smooth.

Laptop, dice, Vida. Erase codes.
Re-load tools into boot.

45 minutes gone.
Back to work.

Still hungry....

Now..
Work for today done..

Let's give these ball joints a shot

Bushes on arms don't look too good either, but that will have to wait.

2.5 hours later..

****... ****.. ****...

I can't bash new one in...

Edit2:

Defeat.

Bashed old one in without problems.

Funnily, after taking it out I saw that its rubber wasn't split at all, mereli slipped off the rod. Grease still inside, nice and clean.

Only had thing is that I could move the boot around with my hand, with little, if ant, effort.

New plan of action needed.

And since I had a proper look underneath this time..

Wishbone bushes on the way out (not there yet, but not too far either)
Spring top dampers pretty much disintegrated.
No spring cushioning at bottom seat
Shocks not far from dying for sure..

Hmm...

This is my experience with bush replacement on the wishbone https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w0q4nku0Rz8

As usual, use only quality parts for these, I warmly recommend if going the bushing way, either genuine Volvo (or Boge), or Polyflex (if maybe stiffer)

For the spring seats Sachs, shockers Sachs or why not a Bilstein B4 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HpmPurRlsvA
