Default Scratch & Dent Insurance

Hi

Does anyone have experience (good or bad) with taking out and/or claiming on such an insurance policy?

I quite like the idea of this type of cover, bearing in mind my vehicle is on contract hire and needs to be returned in pristine condition.

Thanks for your help.

My dealer sold me this policy for £349, when I bought my XC90 in March 2017. Its a 3 year cover.

I'm glad I bought it. Already claimed three times on it. There are a few limits: £1,000 max per claim and a total claim amount of £3,000 in three years. The damaged area cannot be larger than 20cm diameter.

The first two claims were for scratches made on the bumpers, caused by other cars in parking lots, and a SMART repair was done. The third claim was a door ding, and it was fixed by PDR. The three claims together cost £588 for the insurance company.

On all three occasions, the technicians did an excellent job, and it's like new again.

The dealer threw in the AutoTrust cosmetic insurance as a sweetener when I bought my XC90 and it's been very useful so far. My car is on a PCP, so like yours, it has to go back in good nick. Customer service take a bit of time to get you booked in, but I can't fault the work of their technicians. Three minor car park scrapes sorted perfectly.

Thanks for your replies.

Has anyone experience of buying a standalone policy for SMART repairs? I've tried online but most will not provide cover for a vehicle purchased on Contract Hire.
