Default Serpentine Belt wearing the cover

Hello All. I picked up a 2009 XC90 with the D5 engine the other day. On checking the serpentine belt is wearing through the plastic cover at the tensioner pulley. Not sure if anyone can shed any light on why this would happen. The cover is fitted correctly. I'm considering: wrong belt (too long), wrong pulley fitted ( it has a fairly new alternator. Anyone any ideas?

Get to the bottom of this. There is potential for catastrophic damage.

Have it professionally looked at. I personally would not drive it before doing so.

Could be the wrong belt. Several years back I mixed up the new belts for my '03 and '07 D5s. The '03 spec belt was slightly longer but I didn't notice I'd mixed them up until I saw the wear mark on the cover of the '07 where the pulley was touching it.

Its the cambelt cover ....and the belt could be wearing the cover but with mine it splitted the serpentine belt.
i fitted the top bolt of the cambelt cover not properly which made it sagging on the serpentinebelt.

its easy to check and fix....also check the serpentine belt for damage or fit a new one to be sure .
