Default XC60 not starting - relay issue?

Hi all, hoping you can help, I had an issue this morning starting my '59 XC60.

When inserting the key fob into the slot you hear a relay clicking over to the right somewhere. All is usually good to start. Today however it clicked on and then seemed to click off again and wouldn't start. It took several attempts before finally staying on.

This was the second trip this morning, it started fine in the cold, it was the return trip which had problems. Batteries are fine.

I've tried a search here but haven't found anything similar yet, any thoughts appreciated.

Thanks, Alan.

Hi, did you find out what the problem is? I have a 2014 v60 (basically the same set up) and have had a lot of similar issues. Same clicking sound, when I eventually get it started it keeps dying out, the voltage is dropping out somewhere. Have had alternator, battery, start/stop relay all replaced, all fuses & earth checked, checked for water ingress but still not right. I'm at my wits end.

Hi, thanks for the message. Unfortunately not, but thankfully it doesn't happen very often and hasn't hit me as badly as yourself.

The next time it happens, I'm wondering if I should take the fob out and leave it 10-15s before trying again to see if it resets the system better. Almost like a flooded engine, leave it a while and it will be fine? I'd been trying it right away until it eventually started.

My local Volvo tech couldn't shed any light on it either.

Alan.
