GSMguy, I'm fascinated by your mention of the finance company being liable for any major repairs; how does that work exactly?

It only applies if you have a HP or "conditional sale" agreement - If you look through the T&C's somewhere, it will say, that in the event of a problem with the "goods" ie car, they reserve the right to repair or replace at their option....

It's a standard term written into consumer law for HP agreements - And is the sole reason more and more companies are moving towards personal loans...

On all occasions, I merely wrote to the finance company telling them they were liable, and if they did not arrange repairs and a courtesy vehicle, then I would have the vehicle repaired myself and pursue them through the County Court for the cost plus fees and interest...

Works every time - as it's the law, but not many people know about it...

Just had the finance company pay for a full factory recon differential and propshaft on my sisters' 2001 Mercedes CLK Kompressor 230 Convertible, she was going to pay cash for the car 2 years ago, but I persuaded her to take £2000 on a low rate deal over 3 years, and pay the remaining £13k in cash..

And boy is she glad now, as the bill for the diif, propshaft, fitting etc and courtesy cas has come to over £4.5k!!!
