Default Navigation update V70 2013

Hello,

I have a 2013 V70 D4 and would like to update navigation. But if I tried to download it to a usb stick and then upload it to V70 via USB slot in centre console, I cannot do it. Something goes wrong... Does anyone know what should I do?

Best regards, J

Are you sure your sat nav is upgraded to receive downloads from the web via a USB stick? My 2012 XC70 needed the dealer to uprate the sat nav operating system before it would allow it. They charge about £60 to do it. Your car may have just missed the factory upgrade. You need to ask a Volvo dealer to check on the spec via your VIN.

Why won't it work?
Not recognising the usb? It needs to be completely wiped before loading the update.

The usb needs to be formatted to fat32, the system also has to be the sensus navigation without the world image shown on the centre console (see volvo support item). It needs to be upgraded to take downloads (dealer upgrade costs vary £70-100 is typical. the latest update is 2018-4 and the next update won't be until 2020. If all this applies then it will take several hours to install from the usb, so be prepared for a long wait. the good news is it does work (I did it on my V70 D4 2014)

Several hours...so does ignition need to be on all of that time? engine running?

Just thinking of buying a 2014 D2

And the bad news is that the 2020 update will be the last one as Volvo will cease to support the maps in the unit after the next update. For a manufacturer of cars which have the reputation of lasting for decades, Volvo's attitude towards their factory fitted navigation equipment is less than satisfying.

Yes. My Volvo dealer just confirmed to me today. They spoke with Volvo and that is the case.
