Default 2003 T5 - To repair or replace Drivers Seat

Hi to all

I have come to the conclusion my 2003 T5 is worth a bit of a sort out, rather than scrapping. It's a manual, 180K on the clock and still a very strong car. Needs a bit of attention in the front suspension which I'm looking into now. Other than that, I am after a rear passengers door for it and need to sort out the drivers seat.

The stitching has come away from the bolster on the drivers side and a bit of the foam padding has also worn away. I've had quite a lot of searches on ebay for a second hand replacement seat but not with much luck. Pleanty of phase 3 V70 seats but never a correct colour, electric phase 2.

I wanted to ask if anyone has any experience or knows of a company who undertake repairs? I am based in South London.

seat repairs are best left to specialists. if you are on friendly terms with a local garage, why not pop in see if they know to a coach trimmer shop. admittedly these are fewer and further apart these days but some still exist.

About 3 years ago I had my driver's seat recovered at a shop which serviced buses (coach in UK English?).
Their selection of cloth, vinyls and leathers was astounding. I was lucky.

When I bought my V70 a few years ago the seat was split on the seam. In all other respects the seat was fine. However, I couldn't afford to have it done professionally, so I did a bit of a bodge up and sewed it together myself. I applied some dye and 3 years on, its still looking very acceptable. Most of the time the seatbelt sits over the seam and its not noticeable. (which is why I didn't see it when I bought the car).

Here is the thread I posted at the time with some pictures. https://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=247202

For the bottom part, use any 2001-2003 S60 V70 XC70 S80 seat - both front ones will do so a pass one is going to be a better choice. Difficult part is attaching back the spring base to the frame. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AOhUYIG6Qv4 You can separate the cover from the foam. For the upper part of the seat it's more difficult, the headrest needs removed, the lumbar knob, all the securing clips inside

Hi, just to update!

I ended up.not fitting the new seats as I forgot to ask if they were heated before I bought them. They aren't. Silly me, lesson learnt. I did however find a local car upholsterer who swapped the drivers seat leather cover and cushion. £80 Was the charge, very reasonable indeed. The seat looks and feels great now, thank for all the advice
