Default Improvements in Car after software update

Hi All,

I just had my recall done and as a result of that the car software was updated.

The software update has made a huge difference in the car. The ride is far more settled and the suspension seems to settle from bumps far quicker. Also the gear ratios are far smoother. The throttle response is better specially at the roundabouts.

But my worry is that all of these improvements tend to detoriate over the time and when I go back to the dealer, they will refuse to take any actions as there would be no fault codes on the car computer.

Has anyone had a similar experience or is it just me?

Is it with adaptive suspension? If its not then how on earth a software update can change the ride!?

I don’t have adaptive suspension and this is what is baffling me. What kind of configurations the software controls for dampers? Issue is that when I spoke to the dealer he had not clue. It would be interesting if volvo calls out what the software update actually does apart from very high level description on the website.

So there are only two possibilities. Either the tires pressure have been changed or it is only your imagination 😉. Take a note of the current tires pressure and if you really like the ride quality then always adjust it these settings.

Tyre pressure reduction or even a temperature drop would do that suspension improvement. It makes a world of difference in mine. Mine have very narrow feel good window.

The adaptive logic in the gearbox is what makes good gear changing deteriorate over time. You can reset it by powering out of off road mode in xc90 (not sure for s90). That improves things for a while.
It’s never brilliant. It just feels shockingly better when it first comes back from a dealer but it will never feel like a drivers car, just significantly less bad. Just drive it like an OAP and it will feel great.

The last update did something with turbo or engine management - I feel as it is a lot less lumpy in low gears. When gearbox eventually descends into fully adapted it negates it all and the car can only be driven to about 70% without feeling like a learner driver. If you manually override gears it is fine though.

For me it is almost subconscious now - whenever I am not in slow traffic or driving slowly absentmindedly I just take over 1-4 gear changing and then flick it back to manual if no corners.

I also always keep it in dynamic/Polestar mode - air suspension feels awful in comfort.

Just curious, is there now a Polestar mode after the software updates? I've got Polestar on my XC90, but not seen a specific Polestar drive mode.

On my last software update back in June the Dynamic mode on drive select changed to Polestar Engineered. I assume you'll get it next time it's in the dealer for service, warranty, etc.
