Will be interested if you try it, but your biggest stumbling block will be to get a dealer who is both willing to carry out the software update and also would have the faintest clue where to start with doing so....

Without software your HUD unit will do nothing.

Also don't forget that it replaces the red ligths of the intellisafe too so I assume you need to remove these to then fit the unit?

I would suggest test driving one with hud before you go down this route. I have driven both with and without hud, and i found the hud is too distracting and completly unecessary. The electric heated windscreen is fantastic in cold weather and all frost is melted within 60 seconds. No scrapping required.

I would agree, I am still very torn by opting for the HUD over the heated screen which I was used to in my Jag and Discovery Sport. Then again the heated screen saves 5 minutes in the morning, the HUD is used all the time while driving especially when the satnav is in use.

I have to disagree that the HUD is unnecessary - it is a great safety aid in my view, no need to look down at the dash to check your speed as it is there in your direct eye line right next to the speed limit for the road you are driving on.

Also, SatNav directions come up on there when needed, so again no need to look down to the dash.

I was used to HUDs a few years ago when I drove Peugeot’s, but they had a piece of plastic that rose above the dash - still effective but not such a neat solution as the Volvo one.

I certainly missed it when I changed first to a Mazda CX-5, then the first 3 Volvo’s.

With the remote start available on Volvo’s now, I think there is less need for the heated screen.

Out of interest how do the two compare in terms of where the info appears to be displayed in your line of sight and the clarity of the display?

I cant comment on the Peugeot but I had a Garmin running off Navigon. This too was a plastic screen and compared to the native HUD in the Volvo it was rubbish. The native HUD has a very clear display and the display looks like it almost at the end of the bonnet.

I had one of these https://hudway.co/drive on order right up to the point I changed my order to have the integrated HUD

The Volvo’s application is much better as it is more natural for the eye line - the Peugeot way of doing it was OK, and very useful, but I much prefer the Volvo set up.

Unlike Volvo original HUD, I find this after market gadget to be very disturbing, at least based on the video on their web.

Remote start wouldn't would not clear frosted screen (the sides remains frosted). Hence for me Heated Screen >>> HUD esp I don't use the built in Sat Nav.

My next wish: all-round heated screen

Remote start has a good start on my frosted screen before i get into the car. Has to be going for 5 plus minutes though then i put the boost on max.
