Hello,

I know that Volvos are best with Castrol but what viscosity is best with diesel engine that has driven 350 thousand miles?

At that mileage, if you're not losing any oil, just keep using whatever has been used previously. It is obviously good stuff.

As it says in the book, 0w30-5w40 A3/B4
2 great oils that dont cost the earth but these engines run lovely on are fuchs titan supersyn longlife 0w40 and shell helix ultra 5w40.
So long as you get A3/B4 and its from a known big brand, you cant go wrong though.

Cautionary note, you cannot get castrol edge 0w30 A3/B4 anymore, only A5/B5 which is a different spec, but you can get castrol edge 0w40 A3/B4 which is perfectly suited.
A5/B5 does not superceed A3/B4 btw, they are different parallel specs, of which A3/B4 offers greater protection.

350,000 miles doesnt mean the engine is worn if serviced well, but if in doubt use fuchs/castrol/mobil/petronas 0w40 or shell 5w40 then you wont go wrong.

My car is over 300.000 miles and I use this oil: Total Quartz 9000 Energy 0w-30 A3/B4 API SL/CF. It even has the Volvo approval: VOLVO VCC 95200356.

That is the ONLY 0w30 A3/B4 available these days!
