"Gelhard" not Gelhardt. German. Radio cassette radios. Several models with names like Roadstar and Star. All made around 1978. Some more modern units sold from about 1990. Fairly basic and probably used bought in chassis and electronics, maybe from Japan.
Volvo listed radios as accessories. Dependant on the market, Blaupunkt and Philips in Europe and often Bendix in the USA. Some Volvo branded versions were also fitted, mostly Blaupunkt and Bendix with Volvo facias. Euro FM then topped out at 104 against the USA at 108, the current max in Europe, so USA models now more useful here. Basically mono only until the late 60's and not much receivable stereo until the '70's. It was being broadcast, but coverage was poor and stereo radios expensive. Gap filled by stereo cassettes. Have you a picture of the Gelhard John? Last edited by Derek UK; Feb 23rd, 2014 at 11:26. |
