My "long" (driver's side RHD) driveshaft did not want to pull out of the gearbox end. Had to do some levering and tapping with crowbar/cold chisel type tool to get it to move. the splines were dry and had a light rust on them, so they got cleaned up and greased on refitting! I found the long shaft had to be "held" up against the transmission on refitting to get the centre bearing to line up to allow the top bearing cup to be refitted correctly, as there was a little bit of play / bounce back.

Not done the short one yet, but cheshired5's video shows what to do.

That can be very difficult to undo - sometimes even a Volvo dealer won't be able

One option is to leave it there and just install the replacement driveshaft and put a new clamp over the cv boot. However some inner CV joints won't dismantle that easy

I used the wheel lug wrench that sits in the trunk, at one end it looks like a large flat screw driver, used it to pry between the cv joint and the transmission

If the shaft is not the original one, sometimes the aftermarket locking clips are slightly larger and once locked into the transmission, no way they will come out again - it's recommended to always keep and reuse the genuine locking clip

Is what I did. Left the today. Left the shaft as it is and changed the outer cv joint.
Got the shaft from Huddersfield.
New problem popped up now, the drive shaft has no thread at the end.
My old outer joint had rubberised bolt at the end bit, but the new shaft doesn't have any thread in the end.
Look like it has thread deep inside.
Is that common ? Is that different bolt I have to buy pls.
Thano you.
