Default 850 Bilstein B6 shocks

Do any of you have experience with these? What springs did you go with?
I'm looking at making my 850 saloon a little sharper in the twisties and the stock shocks are 20+ years old now.

BC Racing coilovers can be had for around £700 not a lot more expensive than B6+springs.

I have them on one of my C70's

1 = B4 & Eibach spring
1 = B6 & H&R springs

B4 dampers are OEM spec and just just freshen the car up. B6 however, are firmer and you immediately notice how much firmer they are. if getting these, I would couple them with Eibach springs though. I use my C70 to do the best part of 1,000 miles a week and done about 80,000 miles on the above set up. The B6 are still refined, so ride quality is superb and it does help sharpen the car up in the twisties.

B6 are very costly units. If you have the money, absolutely go for it. Just bolt them in, and they work with no messing (like coil overs). However, B6 and Eibach springs would probably see you into £850 territory.

I do think that it would be worth considering something like the ST suspension kit, shocks and springs made by KW I believe which is around £480 and offers a circa 25 or 30mm lowering.

Anything else, just ask.

I’ve only had my car since April and always thought the suspension was too soft. I have Sachs and Eibach which have only done about 5000 miles but it’s like a boat when you have a car full 5 people it’s terrible. I researched for weeks and asked questions and came to the conclusion I wanted the best I could buy within reason so ordered KW V2 Coilovers. Got to wait 5 weeks though for delivery.

That's great, thanks for the information!
I've had a look on the ST website but they don't seem to stock anything for 850's.

I've been on 40mm Apex springs and stock shocks for a few years, poly bushed wishbones and Volvo strut brace, it's just a bit too wallowy (spelling?!) for my liking.

I haven't got much time now but here's a few more bits to help you decide, as I do not know how much you are willing to spend or, how far you want to go.

To me it sounds like either you need coil overs or a suspension kit (spring & dampers) along with perhaps some Ultra Racing Anti roll bars.

I haven't had any experience with Koni but they get mixed reviews from what I hear. I found the following Koni STR Suspension kit trying to keeps costs sensible : https://www.dcperformance.co.uk/upra...volvo/850.html

BC Coilovers get good reviews and sound like decent bang for the money.

Ultra Racing Anti Roll Bars are easily found via Googling.
