Having a quick look under the bonnet did not help me determine the engine size, its not recorded on the MOT or insurance document. Now I know there are 2 types I'll try to get to Volvo parts shop tomorrow, and hopefully they might have both in stock so I can buy the shortest.
I would like to find the engine size though, as I mentioned earlier my insurance company keep telling me I have the 1.8s by looking up the registration. So if know where to find this on the engine it would be great..... PS I can confirm the routing diagram lines up with the layout of all the pulleys. Thanks |

It should tell you on the registration document the V5 what CC the engine is.

The easy way to tell... Open the bonnet - if it has big GDI letters on the engine cover, its the GDI. It not, its the volvo engine. Good luck |

Well the log book says 1731 and there is no GDI so I have just a standard V40 (DVLA mentioned insurance companies get their info from a different database).
However a trip to another shop resulted in no joy - the belt was about 1.5inches longer. A Volvo dealer has ordered one in for tomorrow so I'm hoping this will be the one. Thanks to all the help so far - I'll keep you posted and make sure I update this page with the part number to anyone else who finds themselves with the same problem - hopefully nobody ever does! |

I've now tried various belts from various suppliers, and no joy. Most of disgrams I have seen indicate there is guide wheel. I don't have one of these and I cannot see anywhere it could have broken off from, so I'm still struggling!!!
