1997 S40 TD revving on its own
Heya .
i have a 1997 s40 td 1.8 which when warm on idle will rev its self and occasionally stall it idles at 1000rpm and when it revs it jumps up to 2500rpm and then drops back down . The stalling prob seems to do it when coming to a stop and its a pig to get back started but will after say a min or 2 of trying Then today i noticed in a short journey it was started juddering at 40mph then cleared its self Any ideas?? Please help |

just on the edge of the engine cover, right side facing the, there is a black cover thats the one which covers that motor there is a single screw to take off the cover

stepper motor
there is not a stepper motor on the diesel variant.

Well i'm going to change the Fuel Filter sometime soon and see if that helps

I was talking to someone at the dealership about a similar problem on my S40 (1997 1.9TD), and they said that the main cause of the problem is a blockage within the fuel filter somewhere (normally due to it standing for a long time), or the associated pipework.
