Default GDI , Will not start after a battery change

Hi ALL,

Have just replaced the battery on my GDI and it will not start ... all I get is a loud ticking from the engine bay and the best bit is the fuel gauge drops to zero, ignition has to be switched off fully before trying again.

Doors lock and unlock with fob, but Immobiliser light is going off before trying to crank.

Any help welocme...

Thanks Gary...

Hmmmm!
Loud ticking could be the starter motor, are you sure the new battery is ok and connected properly, connections nice and tight and the correct way round etc?
Could you try a battery off another vehicle that you know works? It doesn't have to fit in the tray properly as you won't want it in there permanently anyway, or maybe even some jumpleads, it wouldn't be the first faulty battery in the world.
And remember that even if it's reading 12volts with a meter, it doesn't necessarily mean it's ok.
Definitely sounds like an electrical drain problem, with the ticking and the fuel gauge dying.

Default Faulty Battery

I was thinking the same lines, it is a 3 year guarantee battery by halfords but I cannot find receipt - I have had it on my charger and shows a full charge.

But unless it is working well it will struggle to turn engine... I think I will try a known good battery...

ps- anybody know where date of manufacture is on a halfords battery ?

thanks morphinemitt - more for the pic of the red jumper than the advice !-)

I think to Gdi's need more juice from the battery to start the car, so have bigger/ more powerful batteries than the normal 1.8 engine, Just had a look at the invoice for mine and it just said Battery no more info. Just been outside and had a look at mine it says 12V 60 ah 520 a. hope this helps.

Sounds lliek you dont have the leads re-connected properly, or the new battery is flat / faulty.

There should be a code on the battery to indicate the date of manufacture of the battery. Shows month and year.
