C70 S70 V70: Throttle Position Sensor Problems

Hi

Wondering if anyone can shed light on a problem I am having with my 2000 V70 T5 Auto.

I have the engine managment light on with a message saying 'Engine Service Required'.

I have the following error codes confirmed:

P0122 Throttle Position Sensor/Switch A Circuit Low Input

P0124 Throttle Position Sensor/Switch A Circuit Intermittent

P0222 Throttle/Petal Position Sensor/Switch B Circuit Low Input

P1120 Throttle position sensor out of range

A new genuine part TPS has been fitted to the car. It seemed to run OK for one day and then the same four error codes have re-appeared.

Does anyone have any clues what could lead to the promlem persisting now that the main culprit has been replaced?

It shows you, that there is bad connection or faulty/damaged wire between TPS and ECU. Try cleaning connectors.

You'll need to provide what year, engine size etc the car is, did you replace the throttle pedal sensor or the throttle position sensor? (Engine end)

erm.. give us a clue :-) ... whats is the difference between throttle pedal sensor and throttle position sensor ?

I can confirm it was the bit with the actual accellerator pedal attached if that helps.

The care is a 2000 v70 2.3 T5 Auto

I've a feeling it is to do with the throttle in the engine bay as opposed to the throttle pedal. Your car, like mine is in the target zone for having a Magneti Marelli throttle body.
Those codes look familiar, but there are various different failures that lead to the actual throttle being at fault.

P1120 Description
The Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) responds to the accelerator pedal movement. This sensor is a kind of potentiometer which transforms the throttle position into output voltage, and emits the voltage signal to the Engine Control Module (ECM). In addition, the sensor detects the opening and closing speed of the throttle valve and feeds the voltage signal to the ECM.

Cheers all.. cars off to the scrapper next week...it's not worth the cost of getting it fixed.

It's the ETM thats shot not the throttle pedal transmitter, cost is about £110 to fix this from one of the forum members - Mike

Whereabouts is the throttle position sensor located on my volvo v70 year 2000 2.4 t? Any help would be grateful!

The old generation sensor mounted on the housing Magneti Marelli has a potentiometer (resistance) with tracks carbon wears due to friction.


This new generation of the sensor chips has the detection, which operate on the principle of detecting the exact position of a magnetic field, and are programmed to convert the analog signal. This principle ensures high precision and stable signal for a long life, because note friction!


Symptoms when the part is out of service:

- Holes acceleration

- Timing at idle

- Pollution

- And others



Do not change your entire throttle body!

The least expensive solution: Replace your old sensor
