Default T4 manifold

Hi Guys, and Gals,

Bit of guidance required.

Have been told i have a cracked Exhaust Manifold by local Indie. They do not weld, so have recommended pro welder. With removal, weld & refitment - i'm looking at £300 - £350 with no guarantee on weld. Local Main Deal wanted £300 for manifold only.

I have sourced 2nd hand part now, Manifold only, just need to track down gaskets.

To save myself 4 hrs labour, i was thinking about doing the job myself.

Has anyone done this before on the turbo model? I understand that i need to drain coolant, remove turbo, then manifold, and space is tight.

The most i have done before, new pads & discs, rocker head gasket - about the extent of it.

With that experience to hand, and without any back up from anyone in the know, would you attempt it?

Any tips, also appreciated.

I have secure off road storage, so time etc will not be an issue like doing on the road.

It will also persuade 'the boss' to let me keep the little beast if i can do myself, to keep the running costs down.

Also, fuel economy - used to get 28-29 on cross country A road. Now just around town - has dropped to 22-23 - does that sound right?

Many thanks

The job itself is not to difficult, the worst thing with exhaust manifolds is snapping the studs off in the head! Not much fun. I always spray them with WD40 etc everyday for about a week before hand.
Have a look at this thread for removing the turbo.

Great article thanks - and soooo much easier to see than the manual i have at the moment - with a few pictures which are postage stamp size in black & white.

just need to muster up the courage now and add a couple more hours on top for the manifold....
