Default Will a 940 M47 fit a 240?

Hi all, I've got a customers car arriving today. It is a 1991 940 with an M47 5 speed gearbox, I will be removing the 2.0 non turbo engine and fitting a B230FK and an M90 gearbox.

So this gearbox won't be needed now, will it fit a 240? As that will open up the market for it as the customer will be selling both the engine and gearbox.

Thanks
Luke

The gearbox is the same, but the bracket holding the gearstick and the linkage to it are different - they’re shorter.

If someone had a broken 240 gearbox they could unbolt the gearstick bracket etc, bolt it onto this gearbox and put it in their 240.

Cheers

240 also had a speedo drive, not sure what year they changed - if they did, 7's & 9's both read off the diff

Fair comment- a very small number of early m47s had a speedo drive and a 4 bolt output flange, but they are rare and only appeared up to 1983 (think it’s 1983?) when volvo fully swapped to a sensor in the diff and an electronic speedo.

A 1991 240 will have an electronic speedo, and the common 3 bolt output flange the same as the 740/940 cars.

Cheers
