ABS/Anti skid/brake assist!!!
My 2006 XC90 has several peculiarities, the lashes being the anti skid service needed. This has been on permanently for about two weeks now. However, sometimes I also get the ABS warning light as well and just occasionally the brake assist service needed. The ABS frequently goes off, if I switch off the engine and restart. My cheap OBD ll scanner (that I just use to cancel the intermittent transmission service required) does not pick up these faults.
Any ideas? Not sure if the anti skid is an MOT failure - if it is will have to find a fix by November. |

You need to get the codes read with Volvo gear or compatible dealer level equipment. It's worth paying for it because it will likely tell you exactly what is wrong and save £££ on poke and hope diagnosis.

When I read the DTC’s there are three for the BCM unit: BCM -0076 BCM- 0129 and BCM-FFFF My VIDA has no information about the last code! Does anyone have any knowledge about this? Regards Dunc56 |

Hi Dunc56
I am aware we have different vehicles, I have a C70, however in the past I had similar issues with various "warning" messages or service required messages, even went into limp mode on a couple of occasions. Turned out that the CEM needed a clean. Has been fine since this was done. Just thought I'd share this bit of info. if it could save you a fortune. Good luck Fred |

Could be the clock spring
Not sure of your vehicle’s mileage - but my 2007 XC90 trudged down the same path. Replaced the clock spring / angle sensor in the steering wheel, and issue resolved.
350$ CAD and about 2 hrs of work - should have been less. Good luck

Warning signs gone!
Hi there folks I thought that I would give an update. I removed the BCM unit following instructions in the very helpful video ‘Volvo BCM Brake Control Module Removal Procedure for S60, S80, V70, XC70, XC90 2002 - 2013’.
Sent the unit to ‘Volvo Diagnostic’ in Tilbury who returned it within a week £161 in total. I have had no success with the broken retaining clip (see different post) although I did get one from a V70 in a scrap yard, the clip appears to be integral with the connector - not prepared to try and remove the wires as VIDA says that two special tools are needed! Just replaced the connector with the broken bits. Reinstalled the BCM and after only a short journey the ABS and Anti-skid lights have gone. Now only the ‘Transmission service needed’ to get sorted and I might have a fully usable XC90 just in time for the end of lockdown!!!! Thanks for all the suggestions Dunc56 |
