What are the chances my 240 had a lsd?
Hi guys, a real vague question I know, I’m changing all the fluids on the car, and before I order the stuff without jacking the rear end up and spinning the wheels can I tell if its a limited slip diff?
Basically do I need the additive |

Jacking the car up and spinning the wheels is the easiest way. An lsd was an expensive and rarely fitted optional extra, it’s (unfortunately) pretty unlikely you have one.

To clarify, jack it up so both rear wheels are free to turn (handbrake off, in N) and spin one wheel by hand - if the other wheel turns in the opposite direction you have an open diff.

I have never seen on in the UK other than a single special order R sport car. They tended to only be offered in Countries where there is lots of snow and ice and even then not a common option.
The locker is much more common but still rare on a 240, the locker just uses normal diff oil. The test of turning the wheels will not let you know if you have a LSD as it will be worn out by now and not likely to be working |
