2010 XC60 D3 Manual Transmission Oil Change

Does anyone know if this is a mammoth task and what the change interval is. My local Stealership just quoted me £357.

I bought a whole car once for two hundred quid!

Should last the life time of the car but video's on Utube of how to do it, you will need 16 liters of oil, new plug gaskets top and bottom for the plug and Vida dice to monitor oil temp to get correct level and reset counter

Manual gearbox oil change is 2L of oil & 1/2 time if you have the correct thinwall socket .
Tip remove the filler plug first then the drain plug , as the filler can be hard to remove as it's close to a alloy web, you don't want to drain the oil if you can't put it back in..

If you can't find xc60 in youtube look for another make with an equivalent engine/box to yours. Eg lots of systems are the same between volvo and Ford during this period. Try a 2.0 ltr mondeo from about 2008, for example. This is the model I used when I needed info on diesel filters, etc. You should be able to see if everything looks the same as yours (you may need to remove a few covers first though).

Having said that, I have never done a Volvo one but manual gearbox oilchange is normally straightforward so long as you have both a drain plug and filler plug.

First job usually is to remove air intakes, etc to get some access from the top. As others have said, be sure you can open the filler plug before you remove the drain, just in case.
The filler plug may be on the side of the 'box (upright face) rather than the top. Be careful, some 'boxes have a casting point on the top that some people have mistaken for a plug because they may have a hex socket in them - an actual plug will usually have a thread or two visible as they are normally taper thread

I've done several myself over the last 30 years BUT I'm suspicious as to why the Stealership saw fit to quote 2 hours work to undo a drain plug a squirt in some oil. Is the access a real pain in the te arse? Hence why i was hoping for am actual vehicle video rather than a generic how to.

I did mine on my D5 one. It was easy with the passenger side wheel off.

Just need to locate the fill and drain bolts, fill was close to where the driveshaft goes if I remember correctly, I don't remember any real issues with access although some socket extensions and leverage is required to crack the bolts and without a lift this can be harder, but like I say I managed and have no bad memories of doing it!

It's not ! you will be costing yourself a lot of money for nothing , the oil is the best synthetic available , there are many 850's still going around with their original gearbox oil , that is where your gearbox originated from . If you drain it , it will still be the same light brown colour .
