Back on this, I proved the earth strap was good by connecting a good jump lead from block to earth point on body.
Car stood for 40hrs, It made no difference. I noticed the cranking speed was very slow.
Battery is good.
Any ideas?

What about the starter motor? Is it cranking at a reasonable speed? Maybe that's the fault?

Starter motor cranks at good speed when not left for over 24hrs. You can start it 100 times in the same day and starts pretty quickly. Not brilliant like other diesels, perhaps i need to see hear another start to compare as it is a big lump.

I was looking towards rail pressure maybe, longer i leave it the worse it is. I left it for 4 weeks once and it struggled.

Some throttle helped i seemed to remember

Cold start takes 2-3 turns. Sometimes just 1. Not sure if you can hear well, ill make a better one in the evening as I just made it to work so hot engine atm 😊 By the way
I used a diesel engine cleaner additive and used redex once now and again and it seems like it improved startup.

Not meaning to derail the thread, but I caught the "51.5 mpg average" when you started her. Call me green, you beauty!

Mine is so weak compared to yours. If you turn it up and listen hard mine does sound weak.

https://youtu.be/iT7QSgpzGsg

and this is one of the better starts

Tempted to chuck in another starter motor.

Bro I'm a noob but this sounds pretty good to me. Starts at what? Second turn? Doesn't sound weak to me mate.

Edit

I put my headphones on and yeah it does sound a bit limp. Maybe hold on to starter motor and see how many amps your battery provides. How old is the battery? Maybe the alternator doesn't charge it enough? What's the voltage on your battery?

My S60 sounded like this when I used a weak battery pack starter. As far as know those starter motors need around 250amps to turn properly. Sounds like your battery only provides 150 or so from the sound of it? Try to measure amp draw. I'm not sure but this info might be available from a scan tool?
