No master key
When I test drove my Volvo V70 2003 last week, the key had the 3 buttons, just like my Ford's. I know for a fact as I was worried about getting them mixed up.
When I picked it up today, he gave me one key and it's got no buttons. I even asked about it and he mansplained how to open the door with it in the lock! So, I've no master key with my new, old, car and just this one with no remote that I have to put in and out of the door lock. So, two questions.... Can I get a buttoned one, or will that cost me an arm and a leg....? Can I use any apps to lock and unlock on my phone like the new Volvo's can? Why would he have not given me the other key? Do I even need it? I've put a steering lock on it now btw Last edited by ifAbbie; Oct 17th, 2020 at 01:13. |

You can get a key programmed, but it can only be done by a Volvo dealer, and it ain't cheap. I believe I read upwards of £400 (Don't quote me). One option I investigated briefly was to buy a uses key and get it programmed to save £100 Or so |

My age old solution to this problem (Or only having one key for a car) is to wait until insurance is up for renewal and take the key cover for an extra £20 or so... Adrian Flux and all the usual suspects offer it.
Wait for a couple of months, call and say you've lost the key/fob- Enjoy an all expenses paid trip to the dealer to sort it out. I've used this method several times on several different cars- it works and everything is replaced for circa £20. HTH. |

Haha I'm not that brave. Especially since it's now in public. I'll try to get a key if possible

If you've lost your key- That's what key cover is there to cover against... The clue's in the name. |

I wish you were
Firstly, the OP is female and clearly not a "He'... Secondly, I've perhaps worded my suggestion badly, but if one looses a key during the course of a policy where cover is provided for that then that's what the cover is for... It's very telling that in a situation in which a woman who's bought a second hand car finds herself with an expensive problem, your immediate response is to jump to defend and protect a multi-million pound multi national insurance company. Can you please give the pearl clutching a rest, it's very dull. |
