Default Driver Info Screen is blank in 2011 C30 D3 R Design

Just bought a 61 plate C30 D3 R Design 2 litre. The chain of events was as follows:

Screen working fine on day 1 after purchase
Brake lights were intermittently switching on so removed brake light switch ready for replacement as the battery had gone flat overnight.

Jump started car from slave battery.

Washed car on drive and polished.

Driver screen started to flash and then disappeared . Over the last few days the screen has flashed and then pix-elated, eventually the screen became completely blank.

I have seen an old post on here from a few years ago that was inconclusive.

Looking for any help on this please. Many Thanks Johnny

Was it a private sale or car dealer?

The car belonged to my daughters boyfriend who is a gamekeeper in Dorset. He has not driven the car for a year and it has been parked in a damp farmyard for that time just being started occasionally. The car has done 78k and has a full service history. He knows nothing about cars and the display screen was working when the car was delivered to my home on a transporter.

does it have a sunroof ?
if so have a look at the CEM threads And sunroof threads
also as it was washed Then died check the passenger foot well for damp/wet
if so and or sunroof, then you will need to start by drying the insides out, which as it sat for over a year Damp can be an issue, clean the CEM contacts AND the ends of the connectors going to it
fit a new battery , as Low batteries in these Will cause all sorts of odd/random/wtf messages and "faults"

Check the scuttle area for blocked drains, Ditto the sunroof if fitted drains , sounds like washing it - wetter insides - problems

are you meaning the screen that has the Radio + heater information on,OR the green info screen between the clocks ?

Neither will like a low/flat battery OR being "moist/damp/soaked"

The driver info screen between the clocks is the problem. The radio/heater screen is fine. If I were to drive it for a few days and get it warm, would that bring it back to life? The battery went flat because the brake lights stayed on all night in the workshop due to a faulty brake light switch which i then removed and have subsequently replaced. I power washed under the arches as the car was pretty muddy underneath which may also have caused the issue.

The car does not have a sunroof but as you say, flat battery and dampness could be my problems. Passenger side mats are dry as is the drivers. The car is in for MOT on Wednesday and a vehicle electrician who has the Volvo software will plug it in and have a look. The car is worth about £4k and dont want a Volvo main dealer bill for half that before i've put it back on the road.

Many Thanks for your response & help

You could do worse than pop her in to Kings Motor Services in Westbury as that's only 10mins from Warminster - it's down by the fire station, opposite Westbury Town Football Club. They're Volvo specialists, owned and run by Tony McMillan, who used to run MRG (ex-main Volvo dealer in Chippenham) prior to them being bought out.

Tony and his guys are great, they've in-depth knowledge of all Volvos and are one of the few indies with 'proper' VIDA access, fully hooked up to the servers in Sweden - you get the main dealer knowledge and expertise without paying main dealer prices. Tell him Steve White sent you in if you do go, he'll look after you.

For clarity, I've no affiliation with Kings', just a very satisfied customer.

Thank you Steve. That is great advice and great to know that such specialists are so close to my home. Glad I bought the car now!!! I have become almost obsessed with this problem, racking my brains trying to work out what the problem can be, and dreading a main dealer bill to sort it out. Thanks Steve, you've made my day. Happy New Year
