Default Knocking suspension

I’ve been meaning to get the car into a garage for a while as it’s been knocking quite heavily on the local roads.
I’d asked at its last MoT for the garage to take an extra careful look at the suspension as it was knocking. They gave it a clean bill of health and said it was likely the shocks.
Well today I took it to a different garage for them to have a look what needed doing. They’ve diagnosed knackered rear bushes on both lower wishbones and a slight click on the upper strut mount as well as a knock on the steering rack.

Naughty MOT garage for not spotting the duff bushes…

Any idea what would cause the rack to knock? Am I likely to be needing a replacement in the near future.? I can see that running into a few quid.

It’s a few weeks until garage can fit it in so I’m trying to decide what it actually needs - the wishbones and upper mounts are a definite in my book.

Car as sig, 2010MY on around 180,000 miles.

I had a funny noise like that. Small rock in the spring.

I'd do the suspension items and see if the steering still knocks after they are fixed. Not had to do steering rack replacement (yet!!) - my car's only just passed 150,000 miles, so hoping I won't have to for a while yet!

If buying the mounts and bushes always check if there are Mondeo/Galaxy parts the same, as these are always cheaper than Volvo ones - and usually the same part (even branded Volvo on occasions, I have found! I have a list of Ford/Volvo part numbers somewhere, for the front suspension, that I made whilst sourcing replacements for my entire suspension set up a few years back. I 'll try and dig it out. Photos of completed work attached.

Search on here for a thread entitled "How I got on with V70 III strut replacement" - I found that helpful.

I found that the biggest banging noise from under the car was when the rear trailing arm bushes were knackered. The MOT put it as an advisory two years ago and, when I did the job, I found that one had completely delaminated. You'd think the MOT guy would have noticed...!

Got chance to speak to the garage today, he said the steering rack knock is negligible and when the engine is running and therefore the hydraulic pump it clears.
It’s now booked in in a couple of weeks for the failed bushes and upper strut mounts sorting.
