Default V70 D5 MY2011 Break Wear Light reset? (Police/”Authorities”)

V70 D5 MY2011 Break Wear Light reset? (Police/”Authorities” spec)

Can anyone cast any light (pun intended) on how to get the break wear light back to green from amber following replacement of the pads.
Is there a “reset” of some kind that I need to do?

This is an extra light fitted just below the instrument panel (i.e., not sharing the break fluid level light as they did in later conversions).

I’m pretty sure it’s not the wear wires. I’ve got ‘no vehicle messages’ and no warning lights on the dash. Break fluid level is OK (close to but above the min – I’ll top that up in the morning).
The light is normally always on (with ignition) and green in colour. The pads wore down and it turned amber (always on with ignition). I replaced the pads (and disks) with Apec PAD1985 which is the “Police vehicle” spec which includes the wear wires. The light remains amber.

I’m no electrician but I have –
  • Given all the contacts a good squirt of contact cleaner.
  • Checked the new cables and they are continuous (like the old ones) and have zero resistance* (also like the old ones). The old ones did have wear damage but it had only gone through the insulation and so there was still a circuit and they offered no resistance.
  • *”no resistance” means zero reading on my Iso-Tech IDM91E MultiMeter set at the minimum (200 Ohm) setting.
  • I used one of the old wear wires and made a short circuit cable (tinned and shrink wrapped, good continuity and no resistance) and have tried fitting this in place of the new wires on each side of the car.
  • I’ve disconnected the battery for quite a few hours then re-connected.

I’m assuming that as the light is separate from the instrument panel and the dash is saying “no vehicle messages” that the OBD is not involved. Does anyone know if this is the case (I don’t have a scanner to check)?

Also, does anyone know how I can access the info mentioned in this thread https://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showt...02#post2150602 ? I’ve asked in the thread and via google-drive.

I’m a bit stuck now so any help greatly appreciated.
