Oil Leak - advice
I have developed an oil leak, which seemed to coming from the back of the engine.
I removed the top engine cover (above the sparks) and the top is swimming with oil, which luckily has not penetrated the spark plugs as yet, any ideas where this oil is coming from and how I cure it? Any help greatly apprciated. Regards Rob |

RE: Oil Leak - advice
hi rob hopefully the oil under the top cover is just from careles oil filling.real easy to do. the turbo oil drain tube o'ring allways leaks and squirts oil every where and was only superceeded a couple of years ago by an "oil resistant" one.the oil seal on rear of the exhaust cam is prone to leak too ( if there's a cam sensor there; can,t recollect off the top of my head )and that oil runs down and along a coolant manifold that distributes it along the back of the motor too.i've just realised i've assumed you meant the "firewall back" of the engine.is tis correct ?

RE: Oil Leak - advice
Yep the oil is leaking at the back of the engine, the firewall back.
I have already had the cover off one and cleaned all of the oil up. And now its back again, its not from overfilling or badly filling the oil. A apologise, I'm not that clear on Volvo engines, or turbo car's so any other advice greatfully appreciated. |

RE: Oil Leak - advice
If the oil is under the spark plug cover then it's not the turbo return line causing it.
It's most likely the seal on the oil filler cap. It will be made worse by blocked crankcase ventilation, so it's time to look at the vacuum lines and rubber elbows. |

Thanks very much, I will check the vacuum line, rubber elbows etc on the weekend, I may as well change the seal on the oil filler cap at the same time. Cheers for the advice.

RE: Oil Leak - advice
I have hopefully fixed mine now.
I replaced the filler cap.. Still getting oil I refitted the breather pipe 3 times.. Still getting oil Then I found the oil seemed to be welling up through the hole for the air pump ( between plugs 3-4 ) so have tapped in a plug to stop it.. Will see how that fairs.. TT |

RE: Oil Leak - advice
Daft question, but where is the breather pipe? I have noticed oil which seems to be coming through the dipstick tube. Although since I have reverted to my local mechanic the oil filter has been fitted better, and a general tightening of necessary bolts (sump pan etc) and oil consumption has improved. 1/3rd -1/2 litre per 1500miles before, now per 2000 miles. Also I have put IXL lubricant in the engine and this has also helped.
