Default Now what?

My 3-year PCP is up in June, so obviously I’ve spent the past few months thinking what’s going to replace my D5 XC90.
I’ve thought about going electric or hybrid.
I’ve thought about Range Rover Sports, X5s, Cayennes, I-Paces and e-Trons.
Maybe I could get a new 90, but a T8 or a B5?
Maybe back to an estate - an A6, a 5-series, a V90 or an E43?
Maybe drop down to an XC60 (I love the idea of a Polestar)?
They’ve all been seriously considered, and a lot of man maths has been scribbled down.
This is all very weird.
Because normally I know what car I want next, often within a few months of buying the last one.
And today it’s finally dawned on me why I’m suffering with all this indecisiveness.
I can’t think of anything I want more than the XC90.
Even with its squeaky driver’s seat.
Even though its a/c and air suspension have let me down more than once.
For the first time in 30-odd years, I’m happy with the car I’ve got.
I hope this isn’t a getting old thing.
I’m assuming this is a Volvo thing?

For what its worth, I've been told by many customers that the Volvo is the first car they have kept more than 3 years!

In less than a year I'll be where you are right now (except for the fact that I outright purchased the car but have intended selling it after 3 yrs..) and I'm 99% decided that I'll be extending the warranty and keeping the car for at least another year.. serves me well, i still love it - and there's nothing else out there that attracts me right now..

Will I sell before 5 year maintenance plan is up.....somehow doubt it. Man maths can't overcome common sense. If I did change id be tempted to go for the BMW M340i xdrive touring. Thats very tempting. But I do spend a lot of time building cars on carwow.

I'm in a somewhat similar position. V90 D4 3 years old next month with 22k on clock. 5 year maintenance and extended warranty for a further 3 years in place. Only a Momentum but it's got things like pano roof, blis, cross traffic, auto dip mirrors all round, 360 camaras, dashcam front and rear. The only things I would like are HUD and an intergrated sim card (or whatever it's called) Presently I have to use my phone . Unfortunatly it's a diesel and I'm fast becoming an outcast. At 73 I may have one more change in me but that clock is ticking .

I was in a similar position last June. We looked at and test drove Disco 5, A6 Avant, Touareg and Q7. Very much liked them all apart from the Disco 5. Would miss the 7 seats in the A6 or Touareg, but could live with it. But in the end, we decided the only reason we were looking to change was because we'd reached the end of the PCP, not because we wanted to change the car. So we bought it outright, got an extended warranty up to 5 years and we'll revisit in 2021!

Had the Q7 have had its facelift and new interior when we were looking last June, it might have been a different outcome, all the above had 3 litre 6 cylinder engines, and all, without exception were far more refined and potent as a result. The A6 (particularly alraod) is a lovely car, but I think we'd miss the practicality of the XC90, the Touareg was a lovely thing to ride in too.

The warranty will be the next thing to sort out. Looking online, the Volvo one for an extra year is £495, which seems reasonable enough. Wouldn’t have the car without one. How did you extend it to five years? The website only mentions four.

My dealer did it for me, very simple, think the cost was £895 for the extra 2 years. I know others have mentioned issues doing it on the Volvo site, but the option to extend to 5 years is definitely available.

AFAIK you have to go through a dealer to get the extra two years. I have just done mine for the two years.

Thanks - I hadn't considered getting an extended warranty, didn't know you could do that.

My 3 years PCP is up in July and I've been to the dealer a couple of times recently but can't get a new version of the same car without the monthly payments going up significantly. In the past I've always managed to get a new car 2/3rds of the way into the lifecycle and got a higher spec each time.

Might consider for the first time ever, paying the balloon and keeping the car.
