Default Problems starting (but not when cold) V70 2.5D

I'm having a bit of a nightmare with my V70 and have had it in to garages loads.

The problem at the moment is starting - all is fine when its cold enough for the glow plugs to actuate (anything below -1 degree c) but any warmer than that (or the engine already being warm) I have to turn it over and over and get a large plume of smoke.

I have had the pump timing, and everything checked and double checked at the garage. I've put new glow plugs in.

My thought were - is there a sensor which tells the engine when to put the glow plugs which has gone? or that can be re-callibrated to come on at warmer temperatures?

Thanks a lot
TC

hi
check all the vac pipes, also check the leak of pipes to the injectors, you say the pump timeing has been done, was it set up with the car running and the scan tool attached to set it within its tolerence.the glow plugs are not needed for warm starts. when was the car serviced last.
hope that helps. what year car.

Thanks a lot for the reply

I had it serviced just before Christmas (independent Volvo Specialist) - before which it was starting fine.

I had it back to the garage a couple of weeks ago - they had it for the week and checked the pump timing (as they had it for the week - I presume they did it warm)

I had leaking fuel pipes and they replaced them at that point - I will go through them again though.

Thanks a lot - its a 1999 V70 2.5
