Default Fuel filter for life

Hey.
We have bought a Volvo V40 d4, we have just had it in to the garage for a service, the engineer was querying the "fuel filter for life" that is fitted onto the car. Has anyone had any issues with theres as he thinks this is a con from Volvo into having to take the car into them to get it replaced when issues arise.
Just looking for general info about this and if we need to watch out for anything.

I take no heed of the "for life" remarks - Total rubbish in my opinion. There's no way I'd leave a fuel filter in a Diesel car without changing it.

Personally, I change the fuel filter on every major service on my S80 (Every two years).

Thanks for that Kev0607. Yes I agree, all the troubles we have had with previous cars has always been to do with fuel filters being clogged up, a perk of using supermarket fuels.

Who told you the fuel filter is for life? I would find someone else to look after your car !

Hi.
The garage phoned to get all the filters for doing its service, 3 companies told him that the fuel filter for the car are 'for life' filters and do not need to be replaced. He queeried it which is why he went to 3 different companies so it's not the garage that is the issue.

Tried to speak with Volvo about this but no1 appears to be on phone duty.

There is a Fuel filter which MUST be changed every 36000 miles it is part of the service ... Its obvious you are not talking to a dealer i think ... No one else is a specialist ...

The only things your dealers are specialist in is in huge bills, buckle shoes and fake smiles

But ofcourse there is no fuel filter for life its getting saturated...... but you dont need a dealer to tell you that.... their motive is not the filter saturation but to sell very expensive new ones, needed or not
