Default V70 battery connect procedure

Hi all,

I sent off my speedo unit (DIM) for repair and just recieved it back and need to therefore re-connect the battery.

I have read many different view online around the correct procedure, e.g. turn on sidelights before connecting neg lead, turn ignition to stage II, etc etc.

The owners manual does not detail any of these procedures being requied.

Can I ask what the view of the forum is on correct procedure to avoid power surge / blown computer modules?

Thanks
Jack

Key in Pos II, driver's door left open, positive lead first then negative.
I've used this method without issue for many years and countless battery reconnections.

Is there any increased risk of a big spark coming given the power draw with ig stage II? I'm a big woosy.

Not really.
There will be a small amount of sparking so you just connect the negative lead assertively and tighten it immediately.
Don't have it hovering around when connecting.

When you're done, you'll realise there's not much to it at all.

believe it or not leaving it in pos II REDUCES the sparking.

I always thought the procedure was bull**** until I tried it but it is legit!!

Thanks all, worked a treat.

Would this be a good strategy for other cars as well or unique to P2 V70?
