Default Fuel question

Hello. Has anyone experienced lumpy running on Shell VPower? I normally run on plain unleaded but thought I'd give the posh stuff a try: seems much worse to me, even though it's a higher octane. The Tesco 99ron has been good, but it's not a convenient place to go for me. Is VPower a weird concoction that the Volvo engines dislike?

I always use shell in my classic cars and the more posh Vpower runs very well for me and has done in over 15 plus cars I have used it in

Kind regards

Use Shell V power in my Amazon (B20 engine) with Millers octane booster/lead replacement/ethanol stabiliser and the car seems much, much happier with it.

Bit more power and I get better fuel consumption by about 5mpg.

If your car is not happy, perhaps have a look at the timing - maybe it needs to be advanced by a couple of degrees to make best use of the 'better' fuel.

Seems odd that you car is OK on Tesco Momentum though (never used this: had some dodgy fuel years ago from Tesco so I only use that stuff in the direst of emergencies).

Try replacing your fuel filter

Thanks both. The fuel filter is recent. I vaguely remember having this experience with VPower once before. The engine runs nicely on regular Shell unleaded, amongst other things, but I do keep thinking I hear a little bit of pinking so I thought I'd try the higher octane to see if it eliminated the pinking. I'm reluctant to retard the timing, because it starts first turn as it is and there's a noticeable drop in performance if I go any further back.

It might be coincidence, eg the points might have just decided to need adjusting, but it just seemed odd that the change should happen when I put VPower in.

V power and VSPe But it can foul the plugs with a redish reidue. I contacted Millars who stated that it was normal
