...... more Series 700 (and Series 900) triva.

I have just got back in the 745 from an 187.3 mile round trip (verified by my working VDO odo and satnav!!) through NW Surrey from near the M3 through Surrey/West & East Sussex and part of Kent, via towns/villages large and small including major /minor roads. It wasn't night time, but mid-morning and the traffic was horrendous at times!!

Did I see any 700/900 Series .... no, not even just one. Years ago they were 'two a penny', but not now. There were plenty of modern Volvos, especially seen on the borders of East and West Sussex.

According to 'cazana', it's an '85 - not that that is anything to go by!

Not possible, it's a vanity plate. The 740 was launched in late 1984 after the A prefix plate had ended. It is an early car though, you can tell by the italic script and the lack of rear headrests.

B prefix is fine, would be a 1985 car.

B first issued on August 1st 1984. The 740 was launched at the 1984 Motorfair for the 1985 model year.

I know it's not a 740, let alone an early one but I thought I'd continue the theme on colours. This 760 mk2 is in (189) white - same as my very first 700/900, a 740 estate. Some will know that this colour is extremely rare for this particular variant of the 700 family.

In addition, I thought I'd put this link in for Dave's benefit. It also just so happens that a 760 mk2 V6 was the second in my long line of 700/900 estates.

The seller sometimes appears on this forum when he wants help, but under a different name.

Yes, it is a rare car with that low mileage and provenance, but then I've always said provenance is everything. He mentions 740s in a not very good light, but then he is selling a 760. However 740s were not inexpensive when new, my own 745 was nearly £13k (that's £36k in today's money) when it was purchased at 6 months old in 1986 by my Wife's Dad.
