Default P2 V70 2.4 (2005) exhaust woes

I caught my back-box on a speed ramp on a retail park (driving slowly with my daughter in the car) and have snapped the brackets - both at the very end near the rear bumper and a bit further down near the rear suspension arms.

I think they could be welded but I don't weld and my local garage says they won't do it - something to do with the box being anodised????

So:

a) does anyone near Northampton, Daventry or Rugby weld and would be prepared to do it for a few beer tokens

b) should the cat-back centre section pipe be slightly flattened? My local garage reckon it has been knocked out of shape - I reckon it should be that way as there's no dents or scrapes, it just has a slightly flattened profile

c) best place for a new back box and centre box that isn't made of paper-thin mild steel that'll rust in 12 months?

In all honesty I'd rather just get the brackets welded and avoid all the expense and there's nowt wrong with it otherwise!

Hi. Unfortunately I'm not capable of answering your questions above, sorry :-)

However assuming it's the hangers on the exhaust itself that are broken, and not on the car... For the hangers by the subframe there is a repair clamp available. For example:

http://www.ebay.ie/itm/Volvo-V70-S60...d#ht_505wt_650

I don't know about the hanger by the back box but surely there is some kind of clamp that would fit and do the job. Hope that's of some help.

That is absolutely brilliant That's a big part of the problem solved and saves a LOAD of money.

Just got to sort the tail pipe now so if anyone happens to know of a tail-pipe clamp replacement bracket whether universal or specific that would be great......I really can't bear the thought of 260 quid for a new cat-back system :-(

Managed to get both brackets from Shipham Motor Group, advertising on ebay as 'everythingvolvo'. Seemed helpful and knowledgeable and they were despatched within the hour.

Unfortunately 'parts for Volvo online' weren't answering their phones and were a bit slow answering my email query.....which is a shame as I could have gone and got the parts in person.

Parts arrived this morning....impressive

I don't know whether this is worth adding to a knowledge base/common faults but the tail-pipe hanger and centre section hanger by the axle are common failures - so much so that there is clearly a market for custom repair brackets.

My exhaust is now back to an MOT worthy condition for an outlay of 25 pounds - a lot cheaper that 250+ for a cat-back system of finding someone to weld some brackets
