Default Handbrake cable question

My offside rear wheel was smelly hot the other day after 20 miles cruising. Its 60k since I did the handbrake shoes so I armed myself with a new genuine set and springs, and fitted them today.
However.... suspected damaged shoes were in fact fine, though worn. Wheel hub is still getting hot and there is still some friction with wheel off ground and handbrake not applied, not coming from the caliper pads.

So, as I am a bit disabled, that is where my abilities stop, as I think its the handbrake cable, an awkward little job. But just before I take it to my local volvo dealer - who seem rather good btw, Is there any way to check the offside cable for binding, that can by done from the hub ?

Question is for reason of poverty.

Handbrake cable replacement is quite easy. I’ve done two. I have a spare used but good set I’m willing to let you have if you want to drive 35 mikes south to collect them.

If you remove the centre console and get eyes on the equaliser bar, operate the lever, it should be fairly obvious if one cable is sticking too far forward.

Check the rear brake caliper isnt sticking .This is usually what causes a binding brake.

The V70 uses a separate shoe-drum system

I've done that too. It's some work to get it in and out, but not that bad. Assuming you have the car on a lift.

2nd above. With centre console raised (don't even need to take off) you will be able to see the "T" junction where the one cable connects to two separate cables. if the T goes off kilter when the lever is pulled that means one side is giving and the other is frozen.

Sounds like the caliper has a sticking piston, causing the brake to stick partially on.
Can be taken apart and repaired, usually corrosion causing the seals to swell and prevent the piston retracting.

If it is that, the quickest way is to put a refurbished caliper on.
